Dilating points example
Khan Academy・2 minutes read
To plot the image of point A under a dilation with a scale factor, move three times further from point P in the same direction as point A. If the scale factor is 1/3 around the origin, move 1/3 of the distance from the origin in the same direction as point A.
Insights
- When dilating a point under a scale factor of three around a fixed point, the new position is determined by moving three times further from the fixed point in the same direction as the original point.
- Conversely, when dilating a point under a scale factor of 1/3 around the origin, the new position is found by moving 1/3 of the distance from the origin in the same direction as the original point.
